Some books are weird, Nancy Thompson “The Mistaken” was one of those books that by the end of it I was neither sure that this was a romance or a thriller. However as much as the genres were blurred there were some good things where you could catch a glimpse of Thompson’s talent and other parts that needed work.
Nick was the best thing that happened to this book. His character was balanced in a spiral of chaos and ruin. Whenever he appeared accidents happened, lives were destroyed and changed and the smell of death was near. You could sympathize with him even knowing that he was a death magnet, but he had personality. And he was important. It would be his mess that would have affected other people and it is amazing to see how a character even offset influences the rest.
The plot had some action scenes that were well written and you could feel the vibe, this was not one of those books where you know what is going to happen next so you keep on your toes in order to see what is going to happen.

As things to improve, a clearer plot would be great. You could see sometimes where the story was going, but then the author would get lost and digress. It actually took 100 pages for the initial incident and that’s a lot! I believe that the author needs to be more efficient with words, say more in fewer pages.
Another thing that needs improvement is emotions/feelings. Even though this is part romance/Thriller, the romance felt off and weird. It’s not a problem that Hannah has Stockholm syndrome, but it seemed rushed, just like Tyler. He is not a bad person… but for some reason the author wanted him to be a bad guy, so he is kind of bipolar. One minute he is almost raping Hannah, then he realises the mistake and stops, another time he is protecting Hannah from the mobster, then he is kidnapped and kills. As much as Tyler tries to be the main character, Nick shines more.

If kidnapped women are your thing, then this book is totally for you! I hope that if Nancy Thompson writes another book to gather 5 beta-readers in order to improve and overcome the less positive aspects.

All Tyler Karras wants is to enjoy life with his expectant new bride. What he gets instead is a graveside seat at her funeral. With the person responsible uncharged and still free, all Ty wants now is revenge.

His target is a stranger, a woman. He doesn’t know her, but he’ll find her, and when he does, he will make her pay.

Ty’s brother, Nick, has dangerous connections and suggests a sadistic plan. Grab this woman and hand her over to his associates, sex-traffickers in San Francisco’s Russian Mafia. They offer Ty more than he dreamed possible. In exchange for the woman, they’ll finally let Nick leave the business for good, with his debt wiped clean and his heart still beating.

There’s just one problem. Ty kidnaps the wrong woman. Now all his plans have gone straight to hell.

With his eyes made clear by the stark reality of his mistake, Ty is driven, compelled by remorse and a relentless sense of guilt to make amends and protect Hannah Maguire, the innocent woman whose life he has derailed. He vows to keep her safe and out of the hands of the very enemy he’s unleashed, but the Russians are holding Nick as leverage to force Ty to complete their deal.

Caught in a no-win situation, Ty must find a way to save himself, his brother, and Hannah, but with the Russian Mafia, even two out of three makes for very long odds.
